About the Role

The Social Media/Visibility Coordinator (Work-Study) at the University of Utah is responsible for overseeing and growing the Instagram presence of U-EXPLORE and the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. This role involves curating high-quality visual content, implementing growth strategies, fostering engagement with students and partners, and supporting campus outreach through poster hanging. The position supports experiential learning initiatives that promote outdoor recreation, environmental awareness, and student community building, utilizing social media to showcase student experiences and landscapes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategy to increase Instagram followers, reach, and engagement, applying best practices such as consistent posting, relevant hashtags, tagging partners, and active audience engagement.
  • Create and schedule feed posts (photos/carousels) 2-3 times per week with engaging captions tied to program themes.
  • Post stories 3-5 times per week, including timely updates, behind-the-scenes content, interactive polls or Q&As, and user-generated content.
  • Produce 1-2 reels per week from short video clips highlighting outdoor recreation skills, course trips, and student moments.
  • Maintain a monthly content calendar to ensure balanced themes and consistent coverage.
  • Curate and edit content from U-EXPLORE's SmugMug library, formatting visuals for Instagram standards and emphasizing diversity of students, landscapes, and activities.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to comments and direct messages.
  • Tag and engage with University of Utah accounts, outdoor industry partners, and student organizations.
  • Track Instagram analytics such as reach, impressions, and engagement rate, and prepare monthly reports to guide growth strategies.

Requirements

  • Strong familiarity with Instagram, including reels, stories, and engagement strategies.
  • Experience managing social media accounts for a brand, organization, or student group.
  • Basic photo and video editing skills for social media formats.
  • Excellent writing skills for crafting captions and calls to action.
  • Passion for outdoor recreation, education, and environmental awareness.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with content management and scheduling tools.
  • Knowledge of outdoor recreation, environmental issues, or student engagement.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a Federal Work-Study program for the current year.
